Visiting Taliesin and Tom and Gretchen's Organic Farm

On Friday, we left the hardware store and headed northwest toward Spring Green.  When we arrived in the area we stopped to visit Taliesin, which is Frank Lloyd Wrights private home and studio.  We took the highlights tour which gave us a good overview of the entire estate.

The two top pictures are his home and the one below is his studio where architects still come to train today in a private school that is run by a private foundation.
The waterfall below was added to the grounds by Frank Lloyd Wright.  He was concerned with every detail on the property.  He even prevented the county from adding phone and electrical lines along the road because they would spoil his view.  Instead, he talked them into burying some of the lines and installing others behind a ridge at the top of the hill.

This part of the state is referred to as the driftless area, and I would encourage all of you to take some time to visit it.  It's beautiful.

After completing our tour, we drove 15 minutes to Tom and Gretchen's Organic Farm.  We found their place on Air BnB and booked our stay there because of all the wonderful comments people had written about them and their place.  We were not disappointed.  Tom and Gretchen raised seven children on their farm and produce almost 90% of what they eat.  For many years Gretchen was a midwife and currently works full time for the state...this is in addition to all her other chores. What an inspiration!

The highlight for us was definitely the wonderful breakfast that they made.  Everything came off the farm or was home cooked by the two of them.  To say if was delicious would be an understatement.

We stayed two days at the farm.  On Saturday, my sister, Gail, joined us.  We did a tour of "behind the    scenes" at the American Players Theater, had dinner back at the Taliesin visitors center and went to see a play at the A P T Saturday night.  It is an outdoor theater, and although it was a bit chilly, we really enjoyed the experience.  It was a great weekend and we really had a lot of fun.
